The central position of Colle San Mauro is a great starting point for excursions and other attractions of this area.
Starting from the town of Caltagirone, known since ancient times for the production of majolica, in which its name comes from the Arab language “Qal’at Ghiran”, which means “Hill of the vases”. It is interesting to visit the historic centre full of Baroque buildings that are liberally coated with majolica, as is the famous and spectacular staircase of Santa Maria del Monte, coated with decorated tiles. The Museum of Ceramics is of great interest and is adjacent to the municipal Villa, which is rich with ancient artefacts; this is traced back with its findings of the production of ceramics from its origins to the present day.
Just a few km, there is the famous archaeological site of San Mauro, from which the farm takes its name, and was before the ancient Greeks. It is a charming place where you feel you have stepped back in time, rich of history and legends. With many places of great artistic value and interesting landscapes that are easily reachable, such as Piazza Armerina, with its splendid mosaics of the Roman Villa del Casale, the Baroque of the Val di Noto, the town of Noto, Avola, Ragusa, Ibla Ragusa, Modica and the town of Siracusa and the famous Valley of the Temples of Agrigento ... This area is rich in archaeology with many sites to see.
