We fell in love with Colle San Mauro about 20 years ago. A green oasis full of history.
The History of the Area
A few kilometers south of Caltagirone, in a basin that opens like an ancient amphitheater made up of no fewer than five hills. Each one brings to light pieces of the valley’s ancient history: from traces of the Bronze Age
to the arrival of the Greek colonies and their ceramics. Here, moreover, in 1945 the epic Battle for Sicilian independence took place
The Farmhouse
The farmhouse was born as a countryside holiday retreat for a family of Catanian nobles;
We discover this enchanting place which by then had gone through a long period of neglect and together with the whole family we decide to restore its ancient soul, bringing wood and stone, arches and decorations back to life.
